A campaign of "Massive Resistance" by whites appeared in the South to oppose the Supreme Court’s ruling that public schools be desegregated in Brown v. Board (1954 ). After the Supreme Court ruled school segregation un-constitutional in the 1954 Brown cases, it order-ed that schools be desegregated with “all delibe-rate speed.” But many white Americans, especially in the South, respond-ed angrily to the Court’s rulings. They didn't want public sch-ools to be desegregated. Soon, "Massive Resistance, a camp-aign to block desegre-gation at the local, state, and nation-al level, was under-way.
